There was a special re-dedication of the HHS Varsity baseball field this coming Monday May 20th, 2019 at 4:45pm. The field will be renamed Campbell – Klein Field in honor of the late and legendary Jim Campbell of Huron, and highly decorated WWII veteran and lifelong Huron resident Dick Klein.
Mr. Campbell is well known as the former General Manager and baseball executive of the Detroit Tigers professional baseball team, and Mr. Klein (after serving his country in WWII and graduating from The Ohio State University) created, formed and coached the very first varsity baseball team at Huron High School in 1949. Mr. Klein was a well respected teacher, coach and administrator for Huron City Schools for many years and will be attending the re-dedication of the field to help commemorate the 70th anniversary of Huron Tiger baseball.
A special thank you to the Huron Eagles for their financial support of the new sign at the field, and to the members of the Huron and Sandusky Fire Departments that handled the installation of the new signage.
Additional behind the scenes support comes from former Huron Athletic Director Dave Brown, former Huron Football Coach Tony Legando, and current Huron Varsity Baseball Coach Dan Lindsley.
Mr. Campbell and Mr. Klein were lifelong friends and it is only fitting that both names appear together on the sign. Campbell – Klein Field is located behind Woodlands Elementary School in Huron.
