Join us on Thursday, August 1 at 6:30pm at the Huron Public Library to learn about Americans in a Splintering Europe. During World War I, thousands of Americans in Europe became refugees desperate to get home. American journalists, in contrast, rushed to Europe to cover the fighting. When the war made its way to the Ottoman Empire and Persia (Iran), American missionaries living there refused to leave and defied President Woodrow Wilson’s edict that American citizens remain neutral. Many were forced to flee alongside thousands of refugees, and some did not survive. This is their story.
