High School Senior, senior Walker Blevins has showcased his talents as a student, member of the academic challenge team, high school band, cross country, soccer and track teams. On Wednesday, the National Merit Scholarship Corp. shared yet another honor for the 17 year-old and announced that he is among a select group of seniors nationwide that are semi-finalists.
Across the country, some 16,000 have been designated as semi-finalists and represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors. The semi-finalists are seniors who scored the highest on the 2019 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
Walker, the son of Jennifer and Roger Blevins, now qualifies to compete for 7,600 National Merit Scholarships, worth a total of more than $30 million. Finalists for the scholarships will be notified in February 2021. Merit Scholar designees are selected on the basis of their skills, accomplishments, and potential success in rigorous college studies.
