Marthon

Tiny Lad Wows Crowd...
More than 250 Runners Compete in 11th Annual Race

 

More than 250 runners from across Ohio and from as far away as Massachusetts, competed in the 11th annual Lighthouse Half Marathon, 5K Run and Kalahari Kid's Fun Run on Saturday, May 2.

 

Despite predictions of rain, it was a glorious Spring day with lots of sunshine. 

 

Top winners overall in the Half Marathon were Kurt Michaelis of Milan, with 1:22:16 and Paulette Hanselman, of Oak Harbor, with 1:34:52. Tops in the 5K were Matt Waaland of Findlay with 16:25 and Danielle Wuensch, New London with 19:20. 

 

Besting the Huron runners in the Half Marathon were Alex Gray with 1:37:20 and Janice Grasl with 1:50:16 And Erie Countians coming in first overall were Justin Zelm with 1:32:43 and Laura Cobb, both of Sandusky, with 1:52:25.

 

The hands-down crowd favorite was Nathan Tokarsky, a small, slender lad with the heart of a chammpion. He captured first place in the 19 and under category of the Half Marathon with a warp-speed 2:16:21.

 

He asked if he could run with his mom last year. "I told him that he could, but he'd better be able to keep up wth me," Joy  Tokarsky of Norwalk. He bested his mother by more than a minute in the Huron race.
